Private Animal Shelters

Tamsen Kingry-Richmond SPCA

Tamsen Kingry and the Richmond SPCA have a track record of excellence. Tamsen has become CEO recently, but she has been the Chief Operating Officers for over a decade and has led in that role. The Richmond SPCA created a mission of every life is precious and they reach that goal year after year. They are a leader in Virginia and beyond. Not only has the Richmond SPCA saved thousands of animals in its own community, but it never fails to step up and save animals from other localities in Virginia and from other states in the nation. They always answer the call and will help law enforcement with hard to save animals, like Peanut a cat who they paid thousands of dollars to save from a hoarding situation in Appomattox. They are the gold standard of animal shelters.

Sue Bell and Homeward Trails

Sue is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to saving animal lives. She has saved so many animals in Virginia and has started a campaign recently to help dogs in rural areas. She never admits defeat and will crawl through mud and muck to help an animal. She has gone to Puerto Rico and the Middle East to save animals. She even took dogs from the Envigo case. No matter the challenge, she tackles it and fixes the problem.
